The trilogy fight between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder appears to be unlikely for 2020.
Fury and Wilder were set to collide a third time back in July. The COVID-19 pandemic put a halt to that plan. Top Rank Boxing was hoping to have the fight take place inside Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 19. That date also failed to stick as there will be pivotal NFL games that weekend.
Arum has been exploring options, including potentially holding the event at an earlier date. It doesn’t appear to be likely, however. Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions explained why to World Boxing News.
It was supposed to take place, I think in June or July, and unfortunately it didn’t and at the moment, it doesn’t look like it is going to happen this year. That is unless Bob Arum pulls a rabbit out of a hat and puts it on in the States.
The last fight got the highest-grossing heavyweight fights to take place in Vegas, and that’s a massive amount of money, nearly 20 million, and that’s not going to be there. So you gotta find some way to make, so the guys get the purses they want. So it’s tough.
The first encounter between Fury and Wilder ended in a split draw. In the rematch, Fury stopped Wilder in the seventh round via TKO to capture the WBC Heavyweight Championship. The Gypsy King has said he plans on fighting in December with or without The Bronze Bomber.
